TSP – A Profitable Plan For Our Future

As the population of the world increases, so too does the quantity of food necessary to keep everyone fed. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization, the world will need a 70% increase in food production to match its growing population. In addition, the market for plant-based protein grew 27% in 2020. This data shows that affordable, healthy protein is in high demand, and will be for the foreseeable future. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who is interested in producing Textured Soy Protein (TSP).

When making TSP, there are two types of soy flour that can be used: Hi-Pro (from solvent-chemical extraction process) & ExPress®(from extruder- press mechanical process). The protein dispersibility index (PDI) is considerably low in Hi-Pro soy flour, requiring the usage of additives, driving up production costs and adding difficulty to he operation itself. In contrast, ExPress® soy flour does not need the extra additives, thus saving you money on producing TSP and making it also an easier operation process.

There are two TSP plant layout solutions that Insta-Pro offers:

  • Standard – The standard layout can have a mixer or preconditioner, any ingredients may be used, a cutter can be used. A dryer/cooler is needed. Primarily used for flakes market.
  • Premium – The premium layout is only available with a preconditioner, requires a boiler, is cutter-friendly and can produce flakes and cubical TSP. This layout also requires a dryer/cooler as the product is high in humidity.

Now is the perfect time to start producing TSP. The demand from the market is clear – TSP is the future of plant-based proteins in diets. Contact one of our sales representatives to learn more.
